Tribological behaviour of green wood-based unrecycled and recycled polypropylene composites

In this study we evaluated the tribological performance of polypropylene composites with wood-flour fillers obtained as a by-product from wood-processing industry, which were based on unrecycled and recycled polymer matrices. The mechanical properties polypropylene-wood wood-filler loadings 0–40 wt % determined tensile tests their friction wear behaviours studied dry reciprocating ball-on-disc sliding against 100Cr6 steel balls at room temperature. addition wood resulted in significant improvement compared to neat, unrecycled, materials: coefficient decreased by up 30%, while resistance was improved two orders magnitude. While neat polymers have better than recycled, 40 content both, composites, almost same level (∼0.25) (2 × 10−6 mm3/(Nm) 3 mm3/(Nm)). Even low 5 fibres for 63% 43% respectively, indicates that use could be sustainable cost-effective way improve performance, compensate normally poorer materials, making suitable choice applications.
